قَالُوا يَا شُعَيْبُ أَصَلَاتُكَ تَأْمُرُكَ أَنْ نَتْرُكَ مَا يَعْبُدُ آبَاؤُنَا أَوْ أَنْ نَفْعَلَ فِي أَمْوَالِنَا مَا نَشَاءُ ۖ إِنَّكَ لَأَنْتَ الْحَلِيمُ الرَّشِيدُ
They said: “Oh Shuaib, does your prayer command you that we should leave what our forefathers had served, or we do not deal with our wealth as we wish? Indeed, you are the forbearing, the upright!”
Only believers are commanded to pray. No one can become a believer without Adhikr—the Permission, as explained in verses 10:99-100. Verses 13:14 and 40:50 state that the prayer of disbelievers increases nothing except their straying. Verse 29:45 explains that prayer prevents one from evil and shameful things, but it should be done to maintain the Book Dhikree, as described in verses 2:2-5.
